A BUSINESSMAN has branded thieves who stole a Union Flag from an Elgin old folk’s home “disgusting”. Alan Duncan, owner of Seaforth Windows, saw the story on the plight of pensioners at Anderson’s in last week’s ‘Northern Scot’ and decided to help them out. A Union Jack was flying outside the home as part of their Jubilee celebrations. However, about a fortnight ago the perpetrators lowered the flag and made off with it. I didn’t feel conspicuous in my fancy clothes and feather hat as we walked from Waverly Station to the gates of Hollyrood Palace because there were so many others doing the same thing.  The air was full of excitement and anticipation as we ladies admired each other’s costumes and the men tagged along. The queues at the gates were long and slow – 8,000 of us had to be security checked before admission to the palace grounds.  We walked around for a bit and stood for a bit then walked some more.  There was a brass band playing music – their brass buttons gleamed against the bright red...

To run alongside the London 2012 Olympics Andersons are holding their own Olympic Games with an Opening Ceremony commencing at 1230 pm the 30 July 2012. The day will commence with a buffet lunch followed by a speech from Fiona Birse one of Moray’s Olympic Torch Heroes. Fiona has been a key figure in providing a range of award-winning services for young people for many years as voluntary chair of the Elgin Youth Development Group. Our Home Manager became Mrs Catherine Markey when she married Terry on Saturday 26 May 2012. The ceremony was conducted on a tartan decorated floating barge at the end of Loch Migdale in Sutherland by Rev Susan Brown of Dornoch Cathedral.  Luck was on their side and the sun shone throughout the day which was followed by dancing at the local village hall and a delicious buffet.
