Residential Care

Care
Each of the five Units is under the supervision of a member of the Management Team. The arrangements for individuals' support and care are decided by the resident and a staff member designated their as "key worker". The Key Worker and resident will keep in close touch to check that arrangements are going to plan and to decide about any changes.

Similarly, the Unit Manager consults with residents, key-workers and other staff to share thinking in planning daily life, activities etc. within the Unit.
Relatives of residents are also encouraged to share views about the general running of the Unit and the Home.

Meals
Arrangements are made for the individual meals at different times and residents may choose to eat in their rooms if they wish. Breakfast in bed is always an option.

We aim to provide a good balanced diet with choice available and account taken of special dietary requirements. Suggestions for menus are always welcome and residents are regularly invited to help with ideas for meals.

Tea/coffee is served midmorning and afternoon and there is a choice of beverages in the evening. Each Unit has facilities for residents and visitors to make drinks/snacks for themselves at any time.

Valuables
Residents are advised to insure their own effects and furnishings. All bedrooms lock and have a lockable drawer within. However, we advise against keeping large sums of money or valuable pieces of jewellery etc. without special protection. Limited safekeeping facilities can be provided on site.

Managing Money
Most residents have their own arrangements, but on request we can provide safekeeping and management facilities for limited amounts of personal money. Some residents find it convenient to use this facility to keep cash safe but on hand.

Care and Support
The nature of the care provided is wide-ranging, from physical assistance with daily living to the social and emotional support of being part of a small community. The exact nature of care is set out in each residents individual care plan, written in consultation with the resident and anyone they choose to be involved. Care plans are monitored and regularly reviewed.

The service we provide is required to meet national minimum standards set by the Scottish Executive. To ensure that these standards are being met, the Care Commission carries out an annual planned inspection of the Home with further unannounced inspections throughout the year. The most recent Inspection Report can be viewed at www.carecommission.com.

Medical Care
Where possible people coming to live in Anderson's will continue to see their own doctor. If someone is coming from a distance away, it may be out with their present doctor's area. We can assist with the transfer arrangements to a local medical practice if required.

Medicines
Residents who are able and wish to retain control of their own medicines are encouraged to do so. At the same time, there is provision for staff to hand out medication to residents. Individually tailored arrangements are set up and kept under review. The home normally receives prescription medicines through one pharmacy. This enables the pharmacist to maintain an overview of individual's medicines and offer advice e.g. interactions, special precautions, etc.
