Christmas Market 2017

Posted by on Dec 20, 2017 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Christmas Market 2017

At the beginning of December, we hosted our first ever Christmas Market. This proved to be a huge success, raising the magnificent sum of £3,166.00. We were honoured that James Allan, Convener for Moray Council took time out to come along and not only welcomed everyone and opened our event, but also stayed all evening and drew the raffle at the end of the proceedings.

During the evening, Kathy McGrath Gunn was live on Wave Radio. We feel overwhelmed at the generosity of many people who donated bottles to Mary Fraser for her amazing bottle stall, raffle prizes, Strathisla Bakery, Ron Farquharson and so many more. We were fortunate to have Greenwards School Choir, Artiquins, Gordonstoun School, VIP Childcare and Maryanne who entertained us throughout the event. Thank you to East End School for kindly allowing us the use of their car park and our Board of Governors for their car parking duties.

The atmosphere was wonderful, everyone getting into the Christmas spirit. So many talented people selling their goods on the stalls. We were able to accommodate over 20 stalls, thanks to the generosity of Grants Marquee hire for donating the large marquee for the evening. Santa and his elves were a huge hit with all the children. The outside Christmas lights brightened up the entranced to our beautiful historic building. Thank you Access Platforms Aberdeen Limited for their assistance and to Speyfruit for the trees. Indoors was like a Christmas wonderland, well done to Joan Cowe and her assistants Simon and Alistair for this stunning display. Last but not least a massive thank you to all staff and volunteers who gave up their time to help and all who turned up on the night to support us and make this event such a wonderful success.

Outside the rain was lashing down but Anderson’s had transformed itself into a sunny summer’s day with seagulls gliding above and bunting hanging from the walls which were decorated by staff.  The tables were smartly dressed with fair ground style napkins, balloons, bubbles and fresh flowers which filled the hall with their scent.  The seaside tunes and seaside sound effects only enhanced what was a memorable day for all.

IMG_1025IMG_1006IMG_1074Residents sat down at 12:30 to a lusicous buffet spread which filled the tables with the ever more spell of the fairground with a selection of picnic foods, fruit punch and delightful desserts.  Staff raised many smiles and there were shrieks of laughter amongst the residents as they took turns blowing and catching bubbles whilst also enjoying the sideshows of ‘Tin Can Alley, Hoopla,  Hook the Duck, Luck Dip.  Prizes were a plenty including candy floss and traditional sweets.

200th Year Anniversary Lunch – 24 June 2015

Posted by on Jul 1, 2015 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on 200th Year Anniversary Lunch – 24 June 2015

IMG_6432On Wednesday 24 June Andersons had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a significant benchmark in our history. 2015 marks Anderson’s 200th year Anniversary; in 1815, General Andrew Anderson bequeathed the money for this very special place to be built.  It’s wonderful to think that over the years Anderson’s has provided a home for so many people both young and old.  General Anderson would be very proud.

In preparation for this celebration we decorated the hall with beautifully displayed flowers and tables were arranged with vintage inspired napkins, crockery and golden balloons. Fancy dress from the Regency Period through to the Victorian Period was worn by staff, relatives and residents.  Everyone in attendance enjoyed a ‘fine dining’ experience with help from Moray College students and staff at Andersons.  Our own Governor Margaret King (Presbytery of Moray) said Grace for us all and compliments must go to the Head of Catering and her team for a wonderful meal.IMG_6853

Bublé and Bubbles’ followed with entertainment provided by Jason Porter (Michael Bublé Tribute Artist).  Additional guests arrived for this part of the day and were welcomed with a glass of bubbly.  Jason’s performance was energetic and animated which encouraged many residents, staff and guests to get up onto their feet and dance.  Jason dedicated a song to a staff member who was celebrating her birthday and also sang to a resident and his wife who were 1 day away from their 68th Wedding Anniversary.IMG_6672

During the interval a slice of celebration cake was enjoyed by all with Moray College presenting a cheque to the value of £585.25 to Andersons.  This money was raised at the Fine Dining Evening which was held at Moray College on the 21 May.  The Northern Scot were also in attendance and managed to capture our special moments.

A very special day which will be remembered for a very long time!

Clic Sargent Wig Wednesday – 20 May 2015

Wig Wed

Anderson’s took part in Wig Wednesday for the second year running.  This is a day where people from across the UK wear wigs to raise vital funds for the Children’s Cancer Charity ‘Clic Sargent’.

Staff were keen and supportive wearing wigs and fancy dress and the atmosphere was full of energy and fun.  Residents were enthusiastic and keen with some wearing homemade wigs and bonnets too!  The main hall was full of Clic Sargent pink balloons tied to the backs of chairs and the tables were cheerfully decorated with fragrant freesias and paper windmills.

The food was fantastic thanks to our catering team and we had lots of happy faces and full tums.  Following lunch we were delighted to welcome Gary Arron an Elvis tribute artist.  Staff, residents, friends and relatives were up and dancing.  IMG_5538One of our residents happened to be celebrating his 84th birthday and Elvis made an announcement to acknowledge this which was followed by the singing of Happy Birthday.

The whole afternoon was delightful and Andersons raised £547 for the Clic Sargent charity.

A major success!

Residents and staff enjoyed a Christmas Lunch in the beautifully decorated main hall of Andersons.  Jean Inch, one of our residents, kindly said grace and Anita and the catering team served a wonderful lunch for all.  Drinks were a plenty and everyone eagerly awaited the arrival of ‘The Green Brae Gagers’ who did not disappoint with a wonderful selection of songs for everyone to enjoy.

The afternoon continued with a visit from Santa Claus who came bearing gifts for all residents.  More songs from our entertainers delighted both staff and residents making it a memorable afternoon!SONY DSC

Thank you to everyone involved who helped make this an afternoon to remember.
