Margaret’s Amazing Charity Shop

Posted by on Apr 15, 2013 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Margaret’s Amazing Charity Shop

During the first week in April, a new charity shop opened it’s doors in a prime location in Lossiemouth for one week only. It’s success resulted in our residents’ amenity fund being boosted by more than £1,000.  We are grateful to all staff and relatives who supported this cause. Overall credit, however, must go to carer, Margaret Mackie, for her initiative,  unfailing passion and hard work to make this enterprise work. She has requested that the money is used for the recreational garden at the East side of Anderson’ s.

On behalf of our residents and their families …

Thank you Margaret, so very much!

Andersons Easter Lunch – 27 March 2013

Posted by on Mar 29, 2013 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Andersons Easter Lunch – 27 March 2013

The hall was beautifully decorated for Easter as usual – there were bunnies and chicks, eggs and flowers and more rabbits and chicks everywhere you looked.

This created the background and ambience for our Easter Lunch which was held on the 27th March. The tables had daffodil yellow tablecloths and a lovely arrangement of Spring flowers in the centre of each.  The menu choice was lovely and Anita and her catering crew produced an attractive, tasty meal of the usual high standard.  The free drinks trolley proved very popular as diners chose their favourite tipple from the extensive choice of drinks. Our resident Rev. said grace on behalf of everyone before the meal commenced. Care staff donned their aprons and served the meals like professionals. After the meal was over, we were joined by Ian and Zena Greig, a musical duo of excellence who are very popular at Anderson’s. They entertained us very well – all kinds of songs from “Jim Reeves” to “The Crooked Bawbee”.  Some residents enjoyed themselves so much that they continued singing after the band had gone home.

A grand time was had by all!

Special thanks to Joan and our maintenance lads for decorating the hall; Anita and her catering staff for the beautiful meal; Sharon for designing and producing the menus; Care staff for their tactful care and assistance as required; Karren, our activities co-ordinator, for helping the residents make the floral arrangements and co-ordinating the event but biggest thanks of all must go to the residents for enjoying themselves so much because that is what makes it all so worthwhile …!

On 11 December at twelve noon,  two coaches rolled up to Anderson’s front door to transport  25 residents and staff escorts to the new Warrant Officers’ and SNCOs’ Mess at

RAF Lossiemouth.

On arrival at our destination we were met by the RAF staff who guided us through to their lovely new Mess.  We were then offered a drink (or two) of our choice while we drunk in our festive surroundings, the friendliness of our hosts with their Christmas hats on and the unobtrusive live background music.

We were then escorted through to the dining room where the tables had been beautifully set in a quadrangle with everyone facing into the centre.  Everyone set to opening their Christmas crackers and soon every head had a colourful paper hat sat upon it and laughter as the jokes were shared aloud in turn.

The meal was traditional and tasty; the wine was good too. The folk singers continued to sing in the background much to the delight of some residents who had requests played and even sang along sometimes.  Following coffee we moved back through to the sitting/bar area and once again drinks were offered all around and the music played on.

The proceedings were interrupted for Wing Commander Strasdin of OC 12 Squadron to be introduced.  He had come to present a giant cheque for £500 to Anderson’s  Home Manager, Catherine Markey, for the residents’ amenity fund. The cheque represented the proceeds of charitable fundraising that had taken place within RAF Lossiemouth.  The Home Manager thanked the RAF for their most generous gift and said how much everyone had enjoyed the day’s hospitality, lovely meal and entertainment.

Soon the band played “Auld Lang Syne” and it was time for the transport to take everyone home having all had the most wonderful time.

“Grateful thanks to R.A.F. Lossie for their kindness!!”

Andersons hosted a Coffee Morning on the 11 october 2012 where both cheques were presented and invited residents, governors and staff along to enjoy some homemade cup cakes and light refreshments.

A lovely morning was had by all and again a huge thank you to June Roy School of Dance for the donation which is much appreciated.

Halloween at Andersons

Posted by on Nov 2, 2012 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Halloween at Andersons

On Halloween morning, 50 Primary One children from East End School were entertained at Anderson’s. The well- behaved children arrived in a wide variety of costumes which amused the residents very much. It was great to welcome back Tommy Horne and his amazing birds of prey. The children were fascinated to get close to the huge arctic eagle owls (world’s largest) as well as the cute little tawny owl.  All birds seemed quite happy to sit on their perch watching everything that was going on. One little boy, whose great granny resides in Anderson’s, was photographed with the tawny owl sitting on his arm.  Once again, Joan Cowe, one of our receptionists, had “worked her magic” in decorating the hall for Halloween  – Joan’s remarkable talent attracts so many complimentary remarks from visitors to Anderson’s but just wait till the Christmas decorations go up!  Some children entertained the residents with a song and a few jokes as well as a poem.  The children enjoyed a drink and some nibbles and then it was time to go back to school.  What a lovely time was had by all and we look forward to the school coming back to sing some carols for us before Christmas.  Grateful thanks to the East End School, Elgin, for sharing Halloween with us.
